Community Service

Posted December 8, 2015

Alma Schrader students try to actively give back to the local and world-wide community. Currently, we are doing a food drive and outerwear collection for the month of December that will go to our local food pantry and the Salvation Army. Past projects have included the collection of over 7000 books that were sent to the Philippines through the Seeds of Dignity organization. Books helped start libraries in areas devasted by Typhoon Haiyan. Students have also hosted a bake sale with profits going to the Cancer Research Foundation and St. Jude's Children's Research Center.

Many of our service projects are coordinated by our Character Council. Members are fourth grade students who apply for membership. Members must be endorsed by a teacher. Character Council members serve on the Character Council at-large before selecting an area of specialization such as Go Green Recycling Team, Go Green Pick Up Team, Book Buddies, or Communications Team.

Alma Schrader Drama Club

Posted December 8, 2015

Alma Schrader has a Drama Club sponsored by Rhonda Young and Mindi Nickell. Past productions have included The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Currently, students are rehearsing for a production of Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown.

Drama Club is made up of third and fourth grade students who are selected by audition. Students have the opportunity to audition for both first and semester productions. Rehearsals are held twice a week up through performance time.

In addition, we have a very active parent group who assists with scenary production, costuming and props. We are proud of this offering at our school.

Alma Schrader Choir

IThe Alma Schrader Choir consists of fourth grade students who must audition for the choir and be endorsed by a teacher. Choir members rehearse once per week under the direction of Ms. Rebecca Gentry.

The choir has performed at multiple events including Run-Ride for Regan, the Downtown Merchants Society Christmas Open House, and the opening of the Christmas season at West Park Mall. The choir has also sung the National Anthem at the Southeast Missouri State University basketball game and been invited to provide music at the Law Enforcement Memorial event.
